The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists that Old Church Road at its intersection with Upper Waterloo Road in St. Andrew, will be closed to vehicular traffic for three days, effective this Friday, November 20.

The roadway is being closed to facilitate work on the northern approach to the new four lane bridge being constructed to replace the Ford along Waterloo Road.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that Old Church Road will be closed from 9:00 a.m. on Friday to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday. Traffic will be allowed to detour onto Upper Waterloo Road.

In the meantime, Mr. Shaw says preparatory work is now taking place, with a view to rehabilitating four roadways in the Waterloo Road area. These are: Annette Crescent, Old Church Road, Dulwich Drive and Beresford Crescent. Rehabilitation of these roads will be done as part of activities to widen Waterloo Road, in order to complement the construction of the four lane bridge.

The new bridge is expected to be completed by the end of next month (December 2009). However, construction works for the widening of the roadway to accommodate four lanes of traffic, from Upper Waterloo Road to West Kings House Road, is slated to be completed by the end of the financial year (March 2010).

The works form part of a 1.2 billion dollar work programme being implemented by the NWA, through which several bridges along the main road network will be replaced.
