Only Small Vehicles allowed to use Cavaliers main road in St. Andrew

The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists that effective today, only small vehicles will be allowed to use the main road between Stony Hill and Parks Road in St. Andrew.The temporary change in the use of the roadway is to facilitate the construction of a Retaining Wall in the district of Cavaliers. The roadway has been reduced resulting from a massive breakaway that occurred during the passage of Tropical Storm Gustav in August.

The alternative routes for large vehicles travelling towards Parks Road are Tunbridge, Red Hills, Rock Hall onto Parks Road or Golden Spring, Lawrence Tavern, Glengoffe, Zion Hill Bridge, Above Rocks onto Parks Road.

The NWA is in the process of constructing a retaining wall at the affected location, through a 9.7 million dollar contract. The works is expected to be completed within the next 10 weeks and forms part of a 1.4 billion dollar programme of works being implemented islandwide. Motorists are advised to obey the instructions of flag persons and posted warning signs.
