The National Works Agency (NWA) is now in the process of constructing several retaining walls valued at over 240 million dollars along the roadway from Papine to Hardwar Gap in St. Andrew.
Under a programme, which is being financed from funds made available through the cess on fuel, 14 locations  along the 23 kilometers  stretch of roadway are being rehabilitated.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says the locations being targeted had sustained severe damage during past disaster events, including Tropical Storm Gustav in 2008. Several sections of the roadway had been reduced to single lane, as a result of some of these events.

Mr. Shaw says due to the construction activities, some of these sections have been further reduced. He is therefore advising motorists to proceed with caution along the roadway from Papine to Hardwar Gap, especially between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. daily.

Construction of these retaining walls is expected to be completed by the end of April 2010. Motorists are being advised to obey the instructions of flag persons and posted warning signs, while construction works are in progress.
