Road paving works are slated to be undertaken this weekend, as the National Works Agency (NWA), through its contractor working on the stretch between Morant River Bridge and Prospect, St. Thomas pushes to complete the construction activities.

The just under nine kilometer section of road is being reconstructed under the Southern Coastal Highway Improvement Programme (SCHIP) at a cost of just over one billion dollars.

Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says starting this Saturday, the section of road between Dumfries Bridge and Retreat will be trageted for the laying of Asphaltic Concrete. The stretch measures some three kilomters and is expected to be completed over the next few days.

Mr. Shaw says that the NWA, through its Project Managers has been having regular dialogue with main contractor China Harbour Engineering (CHEC) Limited in order to ramp up the paving works in areas where underground infrastructure is complete or has been substantially completed.

He says the NWA is particular conerned about the effects of dust nuisance on persons along the project corridors under the SCHIP and that it is working with CHEC to effect improvements in this regard.

In the meantime, members of the public using the corridor between Dumfries Bridge and Retreat in Morant Bay are being urged to exercise caution over the next few days, as CHEC and its team undertakes the paving works.
