The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising that a section of the Fairfield main road, in St. James, will be periodically closed to large units, over the next three nights. Vehicular traffic will be restricted along the section of the road, between the intersection of the roadway which leads to the Irwin High School and the Friendship community. The restriction, which starts tonight will be in effect, between the hours of 10:00 pm and 6:00 am.   Community Relations Officer for the NWA’s Western Region, Janel Ricketts, says the restriction is to facilitate the improvement of the drainage systems along the roadway. Ms Ricketts says that critical pipe culverts will be installed and form part of efforts now underway to upgrade the stretch of roadway between Taylor Avenue and the Friendship community.   During this period this section of the roadway will only be accessible to small units.   The Tucker roadway is being rehabilitated through  an approximately $114 million dollar road improvement contract which is being implemented by the NWA. The project represents the second phase of a comprehensive plan aimed at upgrading the 6.1 kilometre stretch of roadway between the Fairfield Bridge and the Hurlock Bridge.   The project is being implemented through a partnership with the National Housing Trust (NHT).
