Road Closure Notice for the stony Bridge in Smithfield, Westmoreland

The National Works Agency (NWA)is advising that effective, Monday November 26, 2012, the Stony Bridge, which is located along the Smithfield roadway in Westmoreland, will be closed to vehicular traffic. This roadway will remained closed for a period of four months.

The roadway is being closed to facilitate necessary road improvement work along this critical stretch of roadway. The project  involves the removal and replacementof a defective box culvert; the construction of sidewalks; as well as significant river training works.

Operators of smallvehicles travelling to Savanna la Mar from the direction of Smithfield, may travel via Hertford, Strathbogie and then on to Dunbars River. The reverse obtains for operators of small vehicles travelling from the direction of Savanna la Mar towards Smithfield. On the other hand, operators of large vehicles, are being advised to travel via Ferris, Pipers Corner, Amity and then on to Dunbars River. The reverse obtains for motorists travelling from Savanna la Mar towars Ferris.

The project is being executed at a cost of approximately $19 million dollars.
