The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising commuters that a section of North Street, in Downtown Kingston, will be closed to vehicular traffic on Wednesday, July 12, 2023. The closure, which will be at the intersection of North and Duke Streets, will be in effect between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that the stretch of road is being closed to facilitate the installation of a HDPE pipe culvert. The works form part of a larger drainage improvement project along North Street between its intersections with Duke Street and Church Street. The project which costs approximately $10 million will be undertaken over the course of three (3) months.

Mr. Shaw says that the project includes the excavation of the roadway, the laying of HDPE pipe culvert, cleaning of blocked drains and the backfilling of the work area. The roadway will be reinstated with asphaltic concrete. Motorists are being advised to use alternative routes during the period of the closure.
