The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists and pedestrians that the Bull Bay main road in the vicinity of Eleven Miles, St. Thomas will be closed for two hours on Saturday, May 14, 2011, between the hours of 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m.

Closure of the roadway is to facilitate the completion of installing culvert pipes across the roadway which will allow free flow of water under the detour road during the construction of Box Culverts which will replace the fords that are located in the community.

The Eleven Miles Fords have been a source of major inconvenience for motorists and pedestrians as the roadway, often, becomes impassable during heavy rainfall, preventing access to Morant Bay and Kingston.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the National Works Agency, Stephen Shaw says the $135 million Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme (JDIP) project, which began in March is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

The NWA is advising individuals who use the Eleven Miles roadway to bear in mind that it will be closed between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. on Saturday May 14, 2011.

The NWA is also advising that there is no suitable alternative route and that motorists should obey all posted warning signs and the instructions of flag persons.
