Temporary Closure of Long Lane in St. Andrew this Weekend

The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising the public that a section of Long Lane along Stony Hill Road in St. Andrew will be closed for repairs. The road will be closed in the vicinity of the Lane Landings housing complex from 10:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026 until 3:00 a.m. on Monday, June 8, 2026.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, says assessments done at the location revealed that there is subgrade failure due to a faulty soil type. This, he says, along with the seepage of water from adjacent limestone hills into sub-surface soils have resulted in the failure of the road surface.

He says the project, which will be undertaken over the course of the next eight weeks, will include the excavation and removal of the faulty subgrade material which will be replaced with approved material. The period of closure is necessary to facilitate the excavation and reinstatement of the corridor. The road will subsequently be repaved with asphaltic concrete.

Motorists travelling towards Stony Hill are advised to use the designated alternative route via Old Stony Hill Road, turning right at Mountain Slope onto Ridgefield Avenue. They would then continue right onto Ridgefield Avenue, then right onto Bridgemount Park Avenue and left onto Fourwinds Avenue, continuing back onto Long Lane. The reverse will obtain for motorists travelling in the opposite direction.

The NWA regrets any inconvenience that may be caused and encourages all road users to plan ahead and exercise due caution when travelling in the area during the period of the works.
