Effective immediately, traffic changes are in effect for Barbican Road, St. Andrew. The section of the corridor between the Burger King outlet and the Sovereign Shopping Center will be closed for five (5) hours each day. The closure which is being implemented by the National Works Agency (NWA) will be in effect between the hours of 10 am and 3 pm, for the next two weeks.

Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that the closure has become necessary, in order to reinstate the sections of the corridor that were recently dug up by the National Water Commission (NWC) for the laying of a sewer main.

Mr. Shaw says while the project covers the area between the Burger King Outlet and Sovereign Shopping Center, the Agency will be managing the flow of vehicular traffic in order to minimize the inconveniences. To this end, the Agency will over the next three days be focusing on the section of the corridor between the Burger King outlet and Lane Plaza. Vehicular access will therefore be allowed between the Sovereign Shopping Center and Lane Plaza for the next three days.

The alternative route for motorists travelling from the Wedcombe Road area is Charlemont Avenue, Monterrry Avenue, Hope Boulevard and then onto Durham Avenue or Durham Avenue, right onto Wilshire Avenue, left onto Paddington Terrace then onto Liguanea Avenue.

Travelling from the direction of Jacks Hill, motorists are advised to use Liguanea Avenue onto Hope Road. The reverse obtains when travelling towards Jacks Hill or Wedcombe Heights.

Motorists are being advised to obey posted warning signs and the instructions of flag persons during the period of the work.
