The township of Lucea Hanover is set to benefit from infrastructural improvements over the next week. The National Works Agency (NWA) will be undertaking drain cleaning and patching works in the township.
Manager Communication and Customer Services at NWA, Stephen Shaw, says that improvements are coming for motorists using Seaview Drive. Seaview Drive is the corridor that connects the town to the main road leading to Montego Bay. The road which is close to the Lucea Seawall has been a source of discomfort to motorists, due to base failures.
Mr. Shaw says that work is to be done on this section of road, starting on Monday, August 10. Given the high traffic volume along this important corridor, the NWA will be executing the work at night. Beginning at 9:00 p.m. on Monday, the road section will be closed intermittently as the patching activities are being undertaken.
The works form part of a 54-million-dollar initiative to improve the driving experience of motorists using several corridors in the parish of Hanover. Works are being done as part of the GO Rehabilitation Programme and will see several corridors, including the road from Riley to Glasgow, Cascade to Jericho and Green Island to Glasgow being patched.
In the meantime, Mr. Shaw says that critical drain cleaning work is to be done in Lucea and that the agency has sought the assistance of the National Water Commission (NWC) to undertake this effort. The drains, including one along Church Street, near the Lucea Police Station are clogged and have been a source of the deterioration of corridors. The NWC is to assist in having these drains flushed. The drain cleaning works are slated to be done between August 15 and 16, 2026.
Motorists are being advised to obey posted warning signs and the instructions of flag-persons.
