The National Works Agency (NWA) has signed a contract for works to be undertaken along the main road from Tamarind Farm to Naggo Head (Dunbeholden Road), St. Catherine, starting next week. The corridor is one of several across the country that were damaged or made worse by rains associated with Hurricane Melissa.
Manager Communication and Customer Services at NWA, Stephen Shaw says that a contract valued at $27.5 million has been signed for the rehabilitation of the road. The contractor is expected to begin activities along the road on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
Mr. Shaw says that works to be undertaken include the strengthening of the road base, reshaping and the laying of an Asphaltic Concrete surface. The works are expected to be completed within 90 days.
In the meantime, the NWA is also ramping up its activities along known bus routes in the Portmore Municipality. Among the corridors being targeted are the route from Bayside to Naggo Head, Municipal Boulevard, Portmore Parkway and the stretch from Garveymeade to Westchester.
Mr. Shaw says some $40 million is being spent through the Graded Overlay (GO) Road Rehabilitation Programme on corridors that are heavily used by buses.
Motorists are being urged to obey the posted warning signs and the instructions of flag-persons in the vicinity where the road rehabilitation works are underway.
