The temporary road to bypass the now closed Easington Bridge, St. Thomas is to be closed. The road will be closed on Wednesday, May 6, for emergency repairs.

Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the National Works Agency (NWA), Stephen Shaw says the road is being closed to facilitate the installation of culvert pipes. The pipes are expected to make the road more resilient to flooding. The works are expected to be completed by Friday.

Mr. Shaw says that the repairs to the temporary road became necessary due to erosion, resulting from recent heavy rainfall. The bypass road was built across the Yallahs River in order to facilitate motorists who would normally use the Easington Bridge, which has been closed since the passage of Hurricane Melissa in October 2025.

The bridge is to be replaced under the Accelerated Bridge Programme. The programme will target 47 bridges nationwide.
