The National Works Agency (NWA) has commenced works in St. Thomas under the Graded Overlay (GO) Road Rehabilitation Programme . The works, valued at nearly 50 million dollars, is targeting the corridors from Bath to Morant Bay and Easington to Yallahs.

Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that the works being done will target the sections of both corridors that have deteriorated, especially since the passage of Hurricane Melissa.

Mr. Shaw says that while the Easington Bridge remains closed, patching works will be undertaken on both sides of the structure. Several communities are located on either side of the bridge.

The Easington Bridge was one of two structures that were damaged during the passage of Hurricane Melissa. The bridge remains closed and is slated to be replaced under the government’s multi-billion bridge replacement programme.

Mr. Shaw says that a temporary detour road has been constructed to facilitate motorists using the road from Yallahs to Easington. A temporary Ford has been created and will assist motorists in crossing the section of the Yallahs River that flows through the Easington community.

Mr. Shaw says that motorists using the targeted corridors in the parish of St. Thomas should expect slight delays, as the work crews go about making the roads safer, through the repairs. Motorists are therefore being advised to obey posted warning signs and the instructions of flag-persons in using the roads.
