The National Works Agency (NWA) is now undertaking works along Spanish Town Road, St. Andrew as it seeks to improve the driving condition of corridors islandwide. The works being done under the Graded Overlay (GO) Road Rehabilitation Programme are targeting two sections of the road. These sections are from Six Miles to the Weymouth Drive intersection (westerly) and from the Maxfield Avenue intersection to Portia Simpson Miller Square.

Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the National Works Agency (NWA), Stephen Shaw, says that the works which began last weekend should be completed in two months. Under the contract, old and badly rutted sections of Spanish Town Road are being repaired. This is being done through a process referred to as milling.

Mr. Shaw says that the milled sections of the corridor are being repaved. The new works follow similar activities that were undertaken in late 2025. Those works had targeted the section of the road from the Weymouth Drive intersection to Portia Simpson Miller Square.

Spanish Town Road is one of the most heavily trafficked corridors in the corporate area carrying over 50,000 vehicles daily. It is one of 200 roads now being targeted under the GO programme, which is valued at $1.7 – billion.

Motorists are being advised to exercise caution in the vicinity of the works and to obey the instructions of flag-persons and posted warning signs.
