
The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising that, on Saturday, March 7, 2026, a section of the Sewell Avenue in St. James, will be temporarily closed to facilitate the repair of the roadway. This closure will be in effect between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and will affect the section of roadway between the Upper Deck Condominium and the Area One Police Headquarters.
During the period of closure, motorists travelling from the city centre towards Davis Avenue and other areas beyond the Police Area One Headquarters, may use the alternative route via Leader’s Avenue.
Community Relations Officer at the NWA’s Western Region, Janel Ricketts says that the works are being completed under a targeted programme to repair roadways, in and around the city centre of Montego Bay St. James. This repair effort forms part of the Agency’s $1.7 Billion islandwide Graded Overlay (GO) Road Rehabilitation Programme.
The works to repair roadways in and around the city centre of Montego Bay, St. James is now far advanced. Several critical corridors have been repaired including Queens Drive, St. James Street, Union Street, and Howard Cooke Boulevard.
Motorists are being urged to obey the posted warning signs and the instructions of police personnel and flag persons who will be on location to assist with traffic management.
