The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising that, on Sunday March 29, 2026, a section of the Anchovy to Montpelier main road, in St. James, will be closed to facilitate necessary drain improvement works. This closure will be in effect between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and will affect the section of roadway between the Mount Carey Health Centre and the Total Energies Service Station in Montpelier.

During the period of closure, motorists travelling from the direction of Montego Bay towards Montpelier, may travel via Wiltshire, Lethe, Copse and Burnt Ground. Motorists traveling from the Montpelier direction towards Montego Bay will do the reverse and travel via Burnt Ground, Copse Lethe and Wiltshire.

Community Relations Officer at the NWA’s Western Region, Janel Ricketts says on Sunday, the team will be working to install two culverts along the targeted section of the corridor. Ms. Ricketts says that the works form part of a collaborative effort between the NWA and the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF), geared at repairing the approximately 1.7 kilometres stretch of roadway between Mount Carey and Montpelier.

The project involves drainage improvement, and the reshaping and asphalting of the targeted section of the corridor. Approximately $100 million has been devoted to this effort, through the Government of Jamaica’s $1.7 Billion Graded Overlay (Go) Road Rehabilitation Programme.

Motorists are being urged to obey the posted warning signs and the instructions of flag persons.
