The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising that road rehabilitation works will commence in the Ocho Rios township, starting this weekend. The works are slated to begin at 8:00 pm on Saturday.
Manager, Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says that over the next 10 days Main Street will be reduced intermittently to single traffic. The works will entail the removal of the old Asphaltic Concrete surface, through a process referred to as milling. Some 700 metres of the stretch between Island Village and the intersection of Milford Road will be targeted.
Mr. Shaw says that works will also be done on the section of road between the entrance to the Moon Palace Hotel and the Ocho Rios Market. Three Hundred (300) metres of this stretch will be targeted.
Additionally, the roadway at Fisherman's Beach will also be targeted. The work along this section of the corridor will involve the removal of failed sections of the road embankment. These sections will be repaired with suitable road construction materials, before being repaved.
Mr. Shaw says that sidewalks along the section of the North Coast Highway, between Evelyn Street and Bucksfield will also be repaired.
The newly paved road sections will be completed with Raised Pavement Markers (Cats Eyes) and markings.
Mr. Shaw says that in order to minimise the impact on the travelling public, some activities will be undertaken at nights, while some areas will be reduced to single lane traffic during the period of the works. He also advises that as soon the works in the Ocho Rios township are completed, patching activities will commence along the section of the North Coast Highway, between White River and Milford Road.
The public is being urged to obey posted warning signs and the instructions of flag-persons, while this over $50 – million beautification project is being undertaken.
