The entrance and exit to the town of Lucea, Hanover is set to be significantly improved. The National Works Agency (NWA) has signed a $39 – million contract, which will result in the rehabilitation of Seaview Drive, the road that takes commuters into the town from the direction of Montego Bay, St. James.
The stretch has been the source of much frustration, as it is low-lying, close to the sea and often floods during bouts of high wave action or heavy rainfall.
Community Relations Officer for the NWA’s Western Region, Janel Ricketts, says the project, which is slated to commence on Monday, October 5, will target 200 metres of roadway between the G.V. Service Station and D&G Hardware. Ms. Ricketts says that the roadway will be done with an eight inches thick rigid concrete pavement, a departure from the traditional Asphaltic Concrete Surface. She says that in the past Asphalt Concrete had been used as the final surface, however the rigid concrete surface, based on the prevailing conditions, is a more durable solution.
The works are to be executed over a six-month period and will see rolling traffic changes over the life of the project. Road users are therefore being advised that the project will result in some delays; however, the team will be working to minimize these. Some aspects of the project will be executed at nights in order to reduce the impact of the works, especially on the motoring public.
