A main road is classified as an arterial road. In the corporate area of Kingston and St. Andrew, one may easily identify a main road if it is a designated public transportation bus route. What about roads that are not designated as public transportation routes? Eg. Skyline Drive, Graham & Russell Heights etc.

Jamaica has a road network of 15,248 kilometres of roads. Of this the NWA is responsible for 5,286 kilometres, along the main road network. The NWA is therefore not primarily responsible for the remaining 9,962 kilometres, deemed parochial roads. Parochial roads are the responsibility of the local government.
